The Department of Medical Physics, Institute of Physics, University of Silesia is pleased to extend an invitation to all interested parties to attend the Second Polish Symposium on “PROBLEMS IN MEDICAL PHYSICS”.

This meeting follows the first highly successful conference. The previous meeting held in the series have taken place at:

1996 Ustron, Beskidy Mountains, Poland

The Symposium takes place at hotel GAT “Zagron” from Sunday 15 November to Wednesday 18, 1998. Zagron is situated in Szczyrk, Beskidy Mountains, Poland. The hotel is located in a very picturesque place on a mountain slope and surrounded by thick forest. Among additional attractions are swimming pool and sauna (free for the participants).

The symposium is devoted to current interdisciplinary topics related to medical physics. The programme will consist of invited lectures, short oral communications and a poster session. This invitation is addressed to participants from academic sciences and health care sector, as well as, medically oriented companies.

The following themes will be included in the coverage;

1. Modern methods in diagnostics and therapy (physical, physico-chemical, biochemical, radiology, acoustics, image analysis, as well as, computer hardware and software)
2. Today and tomorrow status of medical physics in the health care system
3. Specialisation in medical physics teaching.

An informal reception is planned for Monday evening. Half a day trip to the mountains and / or visit to the local fine art gallery “Galeria Beskidzka”, museum of a famous polish painter Julian Falat in Bystra and museum in Bielsko-Biala are planned.

EKO-Radial Ltd., Katowice is partly responsible for organisation of the Symposium.

The fee for attendance at the Symposium, accommodation, meals and social program will be of the order of 500 Polish Zloty (about 140 USD). Please submit the fee at the following bank account:

The fees for accompanying persons are 350 Polish Zloty (about 100 USD).

There are several international airports including Warszawa, Krakow and Katowice. Szczyrk is located in South Poland, 80 km from Katowice. It is a famous place of skiing and mountain hiking. There are frequent trains from Katowice to Bielsko-Biala (trip takes about 1 hour 2o min). Local buses from Bielsko need about 20 min to reach Szczyrk.

Active participants are asked to submit 1-2 pages (camera-ready abstracts, text and graphics in MS Word format document on 3.5” diskette, or by e-mail). There will be a special book of contributions available to all participants. A small reduction of fee is planned for young participants.
